Florida Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company is proud to celebrate three of our distinguished board members, each of whom is being honored with a Medal of Honor award from the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association (VHFCNBA).
According to the VHFCNBA, the Medal of Honor is granted to thirty attorneys and judges whose “exceptional leadership, advocacy, and enduring commitment have advanced the cause of diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.”

Among the 30 recipients of this year’s Medals of Honor is incoming Florida Lawyers Mutual board chair Lansing C. Scriven. An experienced lawyer in the practice of business litigation, professional ethics, and Florida Bar disciplinary defense, Mr. Scriven has served on the Florida Bar Board of Governors from 2009 to 2017. He is also a past president of the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association, as well as a past president of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and the George Edgecomb Bar Association.
Another of our esteemed board members, Juliet Roulhac, is also a recipient of this year’s Medal of Honor from the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association. The first black president of the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar, Ms. Roulhac was also the first black woman appointed by the governor to the Board of Trustees at her alma mater, the University of Florida. She has also served as a member of the statewide Florida Bar Board of Governors, and has been recognized as a trailblazer in Florida’s legal community throughout her entire career.
Finally, FLM Board Member Craig Gibbs is also among the recipients of this year’s Medal of Honor. A life member of the National Bar Association, Mr. Gibbs served as President of the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association in 2000-2001. Mr. Gibbs has previously received the President’s Award from the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association, as well as the Florida Bar Trial Lawyers’ Section Outstanding Leadership Award.
This year’s Medal of Honor awards will be presented as part of the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association’s 70th Anniversary Gala. Scheduled for Saturday, June 28th at The Boca Raton Resort, the gala is a celebration of not only the Association’s 70th anniversary, but of the leaders “who have shaped our legal community and continue to blaze trails in justice, advocacy, and service.” The Gala will also honor the recipients of the Association’s Trailblazer Awards.
